The 4-nation Old Mutual Heath Streak Africa U14 T20 Cricket Cup ended yesterday, and the chief executive officer Joseph Rego spoke about the impact the T20 league has created and compared it to the Indian Premier League. He said that the tournament is the most popular youth cricket brand in Africa. He also said that it is a mix of cricket, fun and entertainment.

He also added that the intention of the tournament is to groom and nurture the young aspirants so that they go on to represent the country. He stressed on the fact that grassroots level is very important and it is crucial to start off well. He also spoke on the overseas tours that offer exposure to the young guns.

Rego said that the rapidly growing cricket extravaganza has been attracting prestigious academies from across Africa and also believes that that the youth brands are targeting the league as it has got a lot of potential for marketing and advertising their brands. He said that IPL is all about competitive cricket and in Zimbabwe they are exposing the cricketers to different challenges and therefore the competition is almost similar to that of the IPL. It’s a fixture where youngsters get an opportunity to play against top players from all the team.

Importance of overseas tours

Team Fazak Zimbabwe won the inaugural season by defeating South Africa in a close final. Rego further stated, “As a professional academy; it is our vision to identify. nurture and groom young talent offering Mem Me opportunity. reach their potential and one day represent Me nation at the international level with pride. We firmly believe grassroots level development and age groups structures Our overseas tours offer you immense international exposure and enhance their ability to play competitive cricket.”
