The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) conducted the Player Draft for the upcoming 2021 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) that will run from February 20 to March 22 in Karachi and Lahore. Defending champions Karachi Kings will take on Quetta Gladiators in the opening game at the National Stadium.

More than 400 international players registered for the sixth edition of the league. Over 90 players from the West Indies, 80 from England, 40 from Sri Lanka, around 30 from South Africa and Afghanistan each, 20 from Bangladesh, 14 from Australia, and eight from New Zealand were in the line.

All six franchises were allowed to pick the players based on their turn. Two-time winners Islamabad United made the first selection followed by Multan Sultan and last year’s finalist Lahore Qalandars. Peshawar Zalmi, who won the 2017 edition made the fourth pick while 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators were the fifth in line. Defending champions Karachi Kings were the last in line.

Multan Sultans pick Chris Lynn for PSL 2021

The draft consisted of 18 rounds; 16 regular and two supplementary. A few of the notable signings included Quetta Gladiators picking West Indies power-hitter Chris Gayle. The 41-year-old had last played in PSL for Karachi Kings in the 2017 edition before representing Lahore Qalandars in 2016. Apart from Gayle, Gladiators also chose South African quick Dale Steyn and England’s Tom Banton.

The main signings of Multan Sultans were Chris Lynn, Mohammad Rizwan and Carlos Braithwaite while Peshawar Zalmi included David Miller, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Imam-ul-Haq. Karachi Kings named Mohammad Nabi while Lahore Qalandars picked Afghanistan’s spinner, Rashid Khan. Apart from this, Islamabad United chose Chris Jordan as one of their key players.
