So, after two drawn Test matches, the third Test match between Australia and Pakistan finally produced a result. And, in this historic series, it was Australia who emerged on top and thrashed the Pakistan outfit by 115 runs in the final rubber to win the three-match Test series.
It was a match that Australia dominated from the outset. The kangaroos posted a total of 391 in their first innings, and the Babar Azam-led Pakistan side could only post a total of 268 in the first essay. The Aussies produced another commanding performance in their second innings with the willow, and declared with their scorecard reading 227/3, with Usman Khawaja smashing a century.
The Pakistan side was set a target of 351 for victory, but they were bowled out for just 235 in their second innings, as the Aussies emerged on top. Apart from Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam, who scored half-centuries, no other Pakistan willow wielder could even cross the 30-run mark. Nathan Lyon scalped a five-wicket haul in the second innings.
Pakistan slip to 4th after this loss
After this historic series win, the Australian side has consolidated its position at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. The kangaroos have now won five matches in the second cycle of the WTC. Pakistan, on the other hand, have slipped to the fourth spot.
The second place in the WTC table is occupied by the South African outfit, while India are placed at the third spot. Sri Lanka and New Zealand are occupying the fifth and sixth positions in the table. While Bangladesh are occupying the seventh position, the eighth spot in the table is occupied by the West Indies outfit. The Joe Root-led England side is stationed at the last position in the WTC points table.
