While Cheteshwar Pujara was slowly and steadily coming back into form in Leeds and India continued to stage a fightback, 45 miles away in Manchester the focus was on something else. As a matter of fact, on the day when India’s fightback, Rohit Sharma’s resilience, Virat Kohli’s start, and Pujara’s grittiness should have been talked about on the Indian Twitter, the thunder was stolen by a global football icon.

Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo was trending on Twitter across the globe as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner signed a deal with Manchester United. This news was even bigger as the star footballer was returning to his former club after years of teasing a possible return. He played for Manchester United from 2003 to 2009, before moving to Real Madrid in Spain.

After nine seasons in Spain and then three more with Juventus in Italy, the 36-year-old finally returned to his former club where he had first gained global recognition. As soon as the club announced the return of their star player, fans on Twitter completely lost it. It was a dream come true for almost a generation, who had grown up watching Ronaldo play in the red devil’s uniform and always hoped for his comeback to the club.

Chennai Super Kings’ tweet takes the cake

As fans poured down their emotions on social media, Indian Premier League teams didn’t step back to make a mark on Twitter. Basically, no one wanted to stay far from the Ronaldo or CR7 mania which was taking over Twitter on Friday night.  Punjab Kings posted a picture of the footballer in a Manchester United jersey and wrote “Everybody looks good in 𝐑𝐄𝐃!”, which was a reference to their own jersey color red.

Next in line was Rajasthan Royals, who are often known for their brilliant social media team. They uploaded a meme, which has been taken from the famous American sitcom Simpsons. In the picture, a character from the show can be seen in the middle of the bar where everyone is talking about something he isn’t really aware of.

Chennai Super Kings wasn’t too far either as they uploaded a picture of their skipper, MS Dhoni, and tagged Manchester United. They wrote a caption, “See Our #7”, referencing the fact that both Ronaldo and Dhoni wear a number 7 jersey.
