West Indies dominated Bangladesh throughout the two Test matches that they played. Despite the multiple chances thrown at them and the survival options that the visitors had, they failed to utilize those and ended up losing both games terribly, thereby suffering their 100th Test defeat. After the two big wins, West Indies will hope to make it to the finals of the World Test Championship, but they’re still far placed from the top two teams- Australia and South Africa.

Speaking of the contest, West Indies won the toss and put the visitors to bat first. While a couple of players scored well for the team, they were eventually dished out for 234 runs as Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph bagged three wickets each. In response, the hosts were off to a terrific start as their opening batters shared a brilliant 100-run partnership. Although there was a mini-collapse in the middle, Kyle Mayers took the opportunity and amassed a century to keep his side in the commanding position.

Mayers’ 146 (208) was the highlight of the show as it overshadowed Khaled Ahmed’s five-wicket haul. After ending their innings at 408 runs, the West Indies bowlers cleaned up the Bangladesh tigers for 186 runs in the second innings, thereby restricting them with a lead of mere 12 runs. With just 13 runs to chase in the final innings, the hosts finished off the game a day early and clinched the series by 2-0 to lift the trophy in style.

West Indies gain points but remain in the sixth place

From 43.75 PCT, West Indies have risen to 50 PCT but they continue to be positioned at the sixth place in the World Test Championship points table. Bangladesh, on the other hand, continue to remain at the rock bottom with 13.33 PCT and 16 points to their name. Windies now have 54 points from nine matches, which includes four victories, three defeats, and two drawn games.

With 58.33 PCT, India, one of the previous edition’s finalists, are in third position. The postponed Test match against England, from the five-match series, is set to begin on July 1 and the Rohit Sharma-led side is in a commanding position with a 2-1 lead in the series. For them to continue being in the running for the WTC championship, this game is important.

The fourth, fifth, and sixth spots are taken, respectively, by Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and West Indies. England, current WTC champions New Zealand, and Bangladesh are placed at the seventh, eighth, and ninth positions respectively.
