India will be entering the Asia Cup 2022 as the defending champions, having won the previous two editions in 2016 and 2018 respectively. The Men in Blue would be expected to go all the way yet again with plenty of depth in their squad.

However, skipper Rohit Sharma and batting megastar Virat Kohli’s form would certainly be a cause of concern and vice-captain KL Rahul’s injury concerns might be an added burden for the top-order. Irrespective of all these concerns, the selectors would be leaving no stone unturned to name a strong squad for Asia Cup 2022.

The best Indian squad for Asia Cup 2022

Rohit Sharma would be leading India in the event, but he would need to worry about his own personal form. He got good starts in the first two T20Is against England but threw his wicket away while trying to accelerate the scoring. KL Rahul has not played international cricket since the IPL 2022 and was tested COVID-19 positive ahead of the West Indies series. He would be looking for some much-needed match practice heading into the competition.

Virat Kohli has been enduring a horrendous patch, managing just 12 runs in two T20Is. He would be desperate to prove a point or two in the Asia Cup. Shreyas Iyer would be hoping to make the most of his opportunities and his main focus would be to work on tackling the short balls. Suryakumar Yadav is the soul of the Indian middle-order with his ability to perform under immense pressure. His blistering 55-ball 117 proved it in the third T20I against England.

The Indian middle-order would be heavily dependent on the likes of Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik to add the finishing touches in the middle and death overs. Hardik is also a handy bowler. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had a dismal outing in the home series against South Africa, but now would be oozing with confidence after the England tour.

Ravindra Jadeja would be hoping to rediscover his mojo with the ball. Nevertheless, he can play match-defining knocks in the middle and lower order. He had scored an unbeaten match-winning 46 against England in the second T20I of the series. Since IPL 2022, Yuzvendra Chahal has been taking wickets consistently in the India jersey and it is not expected to be any different in the Asia Cup either.

Other members who can make it to India’s Asia Cup squad are Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Arshdeep Singh in the pace department with Ishan Kishan as a reserve wicketkeeper. Avesh Khan or Umran Malik could also fill the remaining speedster’s slot for the tournament.
