Indian Premier League (IPL) is known to create stories where talent meets opportunity. Be it T Natarajan, Mohammad Siraj or the leg-spin sensation Rashid Khan, each one of them would owe to the IPL for helping them earn fame and above all, the occasion to showcase their talent in front of the entire cricketing world. Following on the expected lines, the hot buy of the season for the Mumbai Indians and India’s previous U-19 skipper, Ishan Kishan has been the latest addition to this list.

Kishan, who was quietly earning himself a name as an explosive wicket-keeper batsman while playing for his state team Jharkhand, has been the story of this year’s IPL auction. Ishan had a decent first-class season in 2017-18 but it was his ability to muster runs at a quick pace that struck the think tank at Mumbai Indians.

Auction Day story

Kishan was snapped for INR 6.2 crore by the three-time IPL winners after facing an intense bidding war from the Bangalore-based franchise in the wicket-keepers category. It was an anxious day for the family as they waited in eagerness to see how he fares at the auction table. “We would never even dreamt that he would reach this level, but knew that someone would definitely pick him”, says a father who wondered when phones repeatedly ranged at his office. It was the occasion of delight for the parents who want their son to live up to the faith shown by the team.

Kishan’s childhood dream

It was a dream come true moment for Ishan when he was bought by Mumbai in the auction. The youngster would love to relish the opportunity given by such a successful franchise. He awaits the occasion in delight as he will get to learn so much from a support staff that boasts to have some of the legends of the game. MI is a franchise that treats its players as their family and the youngster is ecstatic to become a part of his new family.

Kishan who had already shown glimpses of his talent in the U-19 World Cup 2016 not only as a skipper but as a top order player, is driven to show his class at the big stage. The 19-year old recently played a blistering knock of 124 in a match between Road Safety XI and No Honking XI, reaching his hundred in just 42 balls against the likes of Harbhajan Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur.
