Remember the day when Maria Sharapova told she didn’t know who Sachin Tendulkar was? She was trolled mercilessly for not recognizing one of the best cricketers of all time. The history repeated itself, to some extent, on Tuesday. Even Sakshi Rawat didn’t recognize her now-husband MS Dhoni when she first saw him. So, there should not be really a big surprise when two stars of different countries fail to recognize each other.

In a time when social media has made things so easy that you can find Virat Kohli playing cricket with England footballer Harry Kane or other stars from various fields meeting each other, such things still happen.

You might be a big celebrity in your country, have a huge fan following in some other countries as well but that doesn’t mean you will necessarily be recognized by everyone. The same happened when former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs shared Alia Bhatt’s GIF. The difference, in this case, was that he was the one who actually shared the pic, instead of someone asking him the question.

Gibbs, who was the first batsman to score 6 sixes in an over in ODIs was ecstatic and wanted to celebrate when Twitter liked his tweet. On Monday, Gibbs tweeted, “Morning, birds are tweeting so I’ll do the same and say have a good one folks”.

The post was liked by Twitter and to express happiness, Gibbs posted a GIF and wrote, “That feeling when Twitter likes your tweet.” The GIF featured Alia Bhatt.

When a user asked him who the girl in the picture was, Gibbs said, “I have no idea who the lady is”. After being schooled that the person in the GIF is actually a Bollywood actor, Gibbs wrote: “Didn’t know you were an actress Alia Bhattbut nice gif”.

Alia responds

Just like everyone else Alia was also left amused and responded with a tweet with another GIF gesturing boundary like an umpire.

Gibbs, who played 90 Tests, 248 ODIs and 23 T20Is for the Proteas, can be forgiven for his excuse as he is not really linked with India like AB de Villiers or Chris Gayle or other stars. He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2010 and last played an IPL game in 2012.
