New Zealand is set for a bumper summer ahead of them as they seek to host England, Australia, and India while traveling to Australia for a return series. The home season will start with the three lions coming for five T20Is and two Test matches. While Black Caps will visit Australia for 3 Tests and 3 ODIs.

This will provide some chances to fringe players getting game time in the New Zealand squad who made it into the finals of the 2019 World Cup only to be heartbroken thanks to the odd boundary count rule despite the match and the ensuing Super over getting tied. Former Kiwi player Mitchell McClenaghan on Twitter hoped that the management gives chances to two particular players.

‘Devcich and Glenn Phillips must be given chances in Kiwi side’

Mitchell McClenaghan, who last played for New Zealand in 2018, decided to go the franchise T20 cricket route after canceling his central contract with Cricket New Zealand in 2017. Since then, he has played for Mumbai Indians in IPL, PSL, BBL, and CPL and featured in Global T20 Canada.

McClenaghan pushed for the inclusion of Anton Devcich, another name who has gone the T20 route and has made a big splash in world cricket. Left-arm all-rounder Devcich has played 12 ODIs and 4 T20Is for the Kiwis but has become a known name in Bangladesh Premier League, CPL and PSL like McClenaghan.

Another name that the Kiwi quick suggested was wicketkeeper Glenn Phillips in the middle order and said these inclusions along with Kane Williamson, Munro, Guptill will Kiwi strengthen the batting more and more. Phillips has appeared in 11 T20Is for New Zealand and has made 140 runs with a best of 56, but is known for his explosive hitting prowess and ability to turn games singlehandedly. His wicketkeeping is also world-class and adds the quality of the side.

McClenaghan tweeted,” I really hope the @BLACKCAPS pick @antondevcich13 this summer. @ICC t20 World Cup just around the corner and this bloke is a jet. No bullshit just pick the best player! Munro, Guptill, devcich, Williamson that’s one belter if a top 4. Also close with @glenndominic159 no.6 yes b”
