Australian Big Bash League franchise, the Hobart Hurricanes are keen on adding to their bowling firepower by roping in England pacer Stuart Broad. Manager of the Hurricanes Michael Roberts confirmed that the talks between the player and the franchise were taking place at the moment.

Broad’s availability will certainly play a huge role in the offering of a contract. Roberts also confirmed that the Hurricanes management would take a call once they confirm the availability of Broad after viewing his international schedule and commitments to the England team.

“Stuart Broad is one of a number of international players that we are currently in talks with,” Roberts said. “The usual process with contracting internationals is to talk to a number of players and wait and see what their availability is with their national commitments during the Big Bash League period. Once it is clearer on a player’s availability, we can then progress talks from there.”

Of the overseas spots available for each BBL franchise, the Hobart Hurricanes have filled just the one spot with Kumar Sangakkara signing an extension. Sangakkara played for the Hurricanes the previous season of the Big Bash League and will be looking to make a further impact that he once made in the previous season. Another spot was filled by Darren Sammy, who has not signed an extension and has been released from his contract.

Although Broad has been the skipper of the England T20 side before, the England stuffed-shirts are unlikely to select him for the limited-overs’ format of the upcoming tour of India later this year.

“I’m going to look at scheduling, whether it’s home or abroad, to try to play some white-ball cricket and there might be a decent opportunity after Christmas this year because there’s not a lot of Test cricket then until, I think, July,” he had said.
