Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi recently made a very controversial statement about his country and Kashmir. The all-rounder noted that Pakistan isn’t able to manage its four provinces and added that they don’t want Kashmir. Furthermore, he was quoted as saying that even India shouldn’t get control over the region. He advised that Kashmir should be an independent country as he wanted humanity to prevail.
Since then, quite a few people have taken a dig at the 38-year-old. India’s central home minister Rajnath Singh is the most recent to join the bandwagon. He mocked Afridi for his comments and said that the cricketer was right. He further passed on a statement that Kashmir has been and will continue to be an integral part of India.
Kashmir Bharat ka part tha, hai, aur rahega
“Baat to thik kaha unhone. Woh Pakistan nahi sambhal pa rahe, Kashmir kya sambhal paayenge. Kashmir Bharat ka part tha, hai, aur rahega,” Mr Singh said at a press conference in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur. [Translation: What is he said is right. They are not able to manage Pakistan. How can they manage Kashmir? Kashmir is and will be a part of India.]

“I say Pakistan doesn’t want Kashmir. Don’t give it to India either. Let Kashmir be independent. At least humanity will be alive. Let people not die… Pakistan doesn’t want Kashmir… It can’t even manage its four provinces…What is the big thing is insaaniyat(humanity). People who are dying there, it is painful. Any death, be it from any community, is painful,” Shahid Afridi said in the video posted on social media earlier.
He, however, had to clarify these statements soon saying that his comments were being taken out of context. “My comments are being misconstrued by Indian media! I’m passionate about my country and greatly value the struggles of Kashmiris. Humanity must prevail and they should get their rights,” he wrote in a tweet later.
