India’s most dependable batsman in Tests Cheteshwar Pujara struck form with the bat after a long time. He scored a gritty knock of 72 runs off 208 balls which visibly wore out the England bowlers. He also forged a century partnership with the skipper Virat Kohli and batted the opposition out of the game. The team’s best number 3 batsman was shockingly dropped for the series opener by India and the man himself has now admitted that he was feeling pressure to score runs in the second innings.

Champion players find ways to come out of the problems and Pujara also did the same. He looked determined to fight it out in the middle and runs came automatically. The second Test didn’t go well for him and he got out playing a rash shot in the first innings at a crucial time which has put him under the radar. But Pujara proved why he is rated so highly in the longest format of the game.

I was under pressure

Cheteshwar Pujara fronted the media after the end of the third day’s play at Trent Bridge where he admitted that he was under pressure to deliver. He also went on to say that there is always pressure when a batsman is not scoring runs and he wants to get out of the rut quickly.

“Yes (I did feel pressure). To be honest there is always some pressure especially when you have not scored too many runs. Even as a team as a batting unit, before this Test match, collectively we hadn’t scored too many runs,” he said. The 30-year-old was also of the opinion that one has to be confident about his technique while batting in the tough conditions in England and then only he can succeed.

“You just need to trust your technique, your temperament and be confident about how you know to play in such condition. Everyone has a different technique, and everyone has a way to play. We just need to play the way we know as a batsman,” he added.
