Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has quashed the reports of feeling the burden of leading Pakistan in all formats of the game. His team was recently whitewashed in New Zealand in the five-match ODI series but they also went on to win the subsequent T20 International series. However, Sarfraz has cleared that he feels honoured to lead the country at the highest level and is enjoying his time in the middle.

Moreover, the expectations from the team have increased after their triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy last year. Sarfraz’s performance with the bat has also gone down since he has been named the leader of the pack. He was found wanting in alien conditions with the bat and also struggled to manage his troops during their losing streak. There were also reports of his rift with the fast bowler Hasan Ali during the tour.

I am enjoying my cricket

Sarfraz Ahmed cleared all the rumours of him playing with the burden of captaincy. He also went on to mention that he is enjoying his cricket to the fullest and is looking forward to the future assignments. “It is great honour for me that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed me captain in all three formats; and this [responsibility] in no way is burdening me. I have always enjoyed playing cricket in every format and tried to produce my best and bring the best out of the national team [as captain],” he was quoted as saying by Dawn.

The 30-year-old also believed that his team failed to latch on to key moments against New Zealand during the ODI series. “We could have won at least two ODIs [in New Zealand]. But in the end the result went against us. The batting, which has some flaws, did not click according to our plans,” Sarfraz added. Recently, Moin Khan had backed Sarfraz to lead the team for a long time in all the formats of the game and expressed confidence in him.
