‘Hopefull, I will play my last game in Chennai’ – MS Dhoni hints featuring in IPL 2022

‘Definitely not’ said MS Dhoni when Danny Morris asked him whether CSK’s last game in IPL 2020 is his final outing in yellow colours? The former Indian captain stood to his words and is featuring in the 2021 edition of the gala tournament. However, many reckon Dhoni won’t feature in the next season and he has been woefully out of form with the bat.

Well, that doesn’t seem to be the case as Dhoni hinted towards playing another IPL season. Speaking to some of his fans virtually, the former Indian captain said he’ll ‘hopefully’ play his farewell at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With the ongoing IPL 2021 taking place in UAE, Dhoni’s statement clearly indicates that he’s planning to take the field next season as well.

“You will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, you will come to see me in Chennai where I will play my last game and I can meet all my fans,” MS Dhoni told some of his fans in a virtual interaction conducted to India Cements. The news spread like wildfire as the wicketkeeper’s fans were delighted.

MS Dhoni hasn’t been at his best with the bat

Meanwhile, Dhoni, who retired from international cricket last year, has been far away from the best in the last couple of seasons. Known for smashing sixes for fun, the dasher has struggled to get runs. In the 2021 edition of the competition, the 40-year-old has accumulated mere 84 runs in his first 13 outings with his average and strike rate being less than 15 and 100 respectively.

These numbers are indeed far from impressive. However, the talismanic cricketer continues to do well in the leadership and wicketkeeping department. Notably, a mega auction is scheduled to take place next year and all the teams will be allowed to retain just a few players. Hence, it remains to be seen if CSK retains Dhoni directly or the star cricket will go in the auction pool.

Speaking of CSK’s campaign in IPL 2021, the three-time champions have absolutely been on a roll. After enduring a tough time last season, the Men in Yellow have comfortably secured a place in the playoffs and would be determined to get the glory once again.
