Indian captain Virat Kohli revealed the pep talk he gave to his boys while he was in charge for the first time as the Indian Test captain, replacing MS Dhoni during the Australia series. Dhoni suffered an injury and he was replaced by Wriddhiman Saha for the Adelaide Test. Chasing 364 to win, India came very close to winning the match but fell 48 runs short of the target.

Kohli told the boys to go for a win and not to worry about anything else, a night for their chase. The skipper went on to make 115 runs in the first innings and followed it up with a stroke-full 141. It was one of the games that gave a lot of hope to the fans and followers apart from the team itself, as the intent was there to be seen.

When Kohli inspired the team to chase

“Whatever target they give us tomorrow, we’re going for it. If there’s any hesitation or anyone wants to oppose it, you tell me right now, or we go to our rooms knowing we’re going to meet the target.” Kohli told his men.

“So it hurt a lot not to cross the line, but it gave us a lot of confidence as a team that we could win anywhere,” the 29-year-old Kohli said at the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2017 Award event recently.

The Indian skipper has 51 centuries to his name at the international stage and he rated the 141 in the second innings very highly.”There have been so many, but purely in terms of the transition, the second innings hundred at Adelaide where we almost won the Test match.,” he stated.

Kohli recently scored his fifth double hundred against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Test series. India are 1-0 in the series and will look to end the final Test, starting in Delhi from tomorrow, on a winning note.
