Australian all-rounder Daniel Christian has received a recall into the Australian side for the upcoming series against India. He had a successful IPL this year and said that he is more than happy to have earned the recall. He is raring to go for the much-awaited challenge in the sub-continent. Christian said that if a player is fit then the experience also comes in handy.
The New South Wales born all-rounder has played 19 ODIs and 15 T20Is for Australia. He holds a strike rate of over 120 in T20Is. Dan has an experience of 76 first-class games under his belt, scoring 3446 runs at an average of 30.76, with five centuries and 15 fifties. He also bagged 155 wickets in the same circuit. Dan has scalped 31 wickets in international cricket so far.
”I have been a little bit vocal in the past about older guys and how you’re at your best when you’re a little bit older, especially if you’re fit. So it’s nice to have the opportunity again because I think I’m a much better cricketer now than what I was when I actually played for Australia. And I reckon most guys around my age would say the same thing,” Christian said.
Importance of fitness
The all-rounder also spoke about the importance of fitness after a certain age, “If your body is fit and firing, you’re a more experienced cricketer and you should be able to draw on those experiences a little bit more than you could five or six years earlier. Coming across situations in games, more often than not you’ve been in them before. You draw on what you did well there and what you did poorly and try to do whatever you need to win a game,” he stated.
Australia lost the 4-Test match series 2-1 against India earlier this year. Captain Steve Smith and his men will be wary of the challenges ahead, but first, they meet Bangladesh in a Test series, starting this Sunday (27 August).
