Cricket veteran Madan Lal took a dig at Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore and questioned his involvement in team selection at the Indian Premier League. Madan Lal voiced his displeasure with KKR captain Shreyas Iyer’s recent admission on his team’s CEO during an open debate hosted by Indian Sports Fans.

Shreyas Iyer had recently mentioned that CEO Venky Mysore was involved in the team selection alongside the coach Brendon McCullum and played a major role in the process. It came as a shock for many when Iyer revealed the matter and fans were left surprised as well.

“Coach and at times, CEO is also obviously involved in team selections. Each and every player takes it well, and they have put in their best efforts,” Iyer had said. Responding to his remarks, Madan Lal was furious over the team’s decision-making system and called out for the management to have supported it.

“I am personally shocked and dismayed by Iyer’s revelations. If that’s true then what are coaches and support staff doing? It is the job of coaches and captains to decide on the team and not the CEO. That’s the reason why the team is performing so badly on the field. Something is fundamentally wrong within the team,” Madan Lal was quoted by News 18.

KKR struggling to make its way into the playoffs

KKR had a terrific start to their campaign this season, but things fell out of place after the initial games in the league. Making a major comeback after losing the finals last year, it seemed like the two-time champions had an aim to win this season as they bagged a victory in three of their first four games.

But then followed a five-match losing streak which blurred their chances of continuing in the game for the playoffs. With the league stage approaching an end, KKR is still struggling to get some important points on the leaderboard. With a total of five wins in 12 games so far, the team is placed seventh on the points table. In order to maintain their place in the race, they will need to win both their remaining encounters.
