Team India pacer Mohammed Shami has been rested for the upcoming limited-overs series against India starting February 6. The decision seems to have been made taking India’s hectic schedule into consideration along with the workload management policy as Shami has been playing continuously for the last few months.

At the same time, the speedster has also made it clear that the thought of leading the Indian team is not in his mind at the moment and he is prepared for to take on whatever responsibilities are given to him.

“I am not thinking too much about captaincy at the moment. I am ready for whatever responsibility is given to me. To be honest, who doesn’t want to captain the India team but it is not the only thing and I am looking to contribute in whichever manner possible for the team,” said Mohammed Shami while speaking to India.com.

I am available for selection in all formats, says Shami

The tearaway fast bowler has been a key member of the Indian Test team in the last few years but, the Bengal pacer has also made it clear that he is available for selection across formats. “I am available for selection in all formats and if it happens, I am more than looking forward to it,” he added.

Mohammed Shami registered 14 scalps in the three-match Test series against South Africa. Despite drawing first blood at Centurion, India ended up losing the series 1-2 from a position of strength with losses at Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively. The Men In Blue were then whitewashed in the three ODIs that succeeded.

India will now be hosting the West Indies in three One Day Internationals and as many T20Is. A returning Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian side in the upcoming white-ball bilateral series while KL Rahul will be serving as his deputy. The ODIs will be played at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on February 6, 9, and 11 while the T20I series will be played at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on February 16,18, and, 20 respectively.
