There has been a lot of talk about MS Dhoni’s waning abilities with the bat. He has struggled considerably this year and failed to score even a half-century in the ODIs. Moreover, once the selectors axed him from the T20Is against the Windies and Australia, there were talks about his place in the ODI team also under threat. But the skipper Virat Kohli cleared all the air saying that he is still the integral part of the team. However, Ashish Nehra has also come out in support of the veteran and believes that Dhoni knows what he is doing.

With the top-order dominance in the limited-overs format, Dhoni seldom gets to bat. But whenever he got an opportunity this year, the wicketkeeper-batsman failed miserably. He was even booed at Lord’s for his slow batting earlier this year despite the fact that he completed 10,000 ODI runs in the same game. With no matches in 2018 anymore, his form in Australia will be crucial for India.

I am sure he will do well

Ashish Nehra, while speaking to Cricket Next, backed MS Dhoni to come good in the ODI series in Australia. He believed that the veteran knows what he is doing and no one can replace him. Though Rishabh pant and Dinesh Karthik are there in the team, India needs Dhoni until he is playing.

“Yes, there is Rishabh Pant, there is Dinesh Karthik, who has done reasonably well, but MS Dhoni is MS Dhoni. Nobody comes close to him, not only as a cricketer but the kind of aura he has it is a great help to somebody (Yuzvendra) Chahal, to Kuldeep (Yadav) Jasprit Bumrah and most importantly to Virat Kohli.

“MS Dhoni knows what he is doing. Although he wasn’t that good in Asia Cup and this series what he would have liked to have but still he has two months. I am sure that he will do well in Australia, so we shouldn’t worry about MS Dhoni,” Nehra said.

Even Sachin Tendulkar, recently, came out in MS Dhoni’s support and believed that he will strike form at the right time for the team.
