After a hiatus of five years, the ICC T20 World Cup is set to take place either in India or UAE starting in October. Although the tournament is a good six months away, former and current cricketers along with experts have already started to pick their favourite team for the global event.

Siddarth Kaul who last played for India in 2019 and last featured in the 14th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) for Sunrisers Hyderabad is one of the possible candidates who could be included in the T20 World Cup squad. The domestic and IPL performances from fringe players could be considered by selectors and management when they brainstorm their heads to add reserve batters and bowlers for the showpiece event.

Currently, Kaul is not in the scheme of things, but the BCCI might include him for India’s limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka sans the regular players who will be in England. Kaul, who shared the dressing room with Virat Kohli in their Under-19 World Cup victory in 2008, shared his views on the upcoming T20 World Cup.

He said it’s a dream to win the global event. He also feels that he can be the lucky charm for Kohli, as his two for 26 in five overs in the final of the U19 World Cup helped India beat South Africa.

Kaul wants to help India win the World Cup

“I am happy with the run I had in the Indian team. But my dream is to help India win a World Cup in the coming years. If I stay, and the way I am building my game continues, then I definitely want to win India the World Cup. It is my dream. Just like how I helped India win the U19 World Cup, I want to help India win the main World Cup too. With Virat Kohli as captain, I feel I can be his lucky charm,” Kaul told Sportskeeda.

Since his debut in 2017, the 31-year-old pacer has so far featured in three ODIs and as many T20Is. He though is a regular part of Sunrisers and has impressed whenever he has got his chance. Kaul is hoping to get picked for the Sri Lanka series it seems and would be keen to impress the selectors ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.
