There were several rumours floating around that the T20 World Cup match between India and Afghanistan was fixed. The Indian side thrashed the Afghanistan outfit by a margin of 66 runs to post their first win of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup.

Several fans had pointed out that various moments from the match were fixed so that the Indian side can still have the chance to qualify for the semifinals. While one fan tweeted that Virat Kohli had told the Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi to bowl first after he had won the toss, another pointed out the drop catch of Hardik Pandya.

Pandya hit the ball in the air, and Najibullah Zadran dropped a sitter at Long Off. Another fan tweeted about a poor fielding effort from an Afghanistan player in the boundary and opined that Afghanistan had sold out to the Indian side.

People should not pay attention to these things: Waqar Younis

Pakistan cricket legends Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have said that people should not pay attention to these match-fixing theories. Wasim Akram added that India are a good side and just had two bad days at the beginning of the 2021 T20 World Cup.

“I don’t know why we like to create such conspiracy theories? India are a very good team. They just had couple of bad days at the start of the tournament,” said Wasim Akram to A Sports.

Waqar Younis feels that it is pointless to say that the match between India and Afghanistan was fixed and people should not pay attention to these kinds of rumours. “It’s a pointless thing to say and people should not give it much attention,” said Waqar Younis.

The Indian side will next take on the Scotland side on 5th November 2021. This clash will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
