Not just the Sunrisers Hyderabad supporters but also all the Indians fans had a sigh of relief to see Shikhar Dhawan score a half century against Gujarat Lions at Rajkot. Shikhar Dhawan had been in a miserable form since the World T20 and the poor run had plagued his IPL journey this season too.

With just 16 runs in 3 matches, and having failed to get into the double figures, in walked Shikhar Dhawan to chase down the total of 136 set by Gujarat Lions. Shikhar played sensibly and remained unbeaten on 53 from 41 balls as SRH won by 10 wickets. Talking to iplt20.com after the match, Shikhar Dhawan said he never pressurizes himself. Even when he is going through a lean patch, he tries to keep himself motivated and takes it up as a new challenge. He added that he is not afraid of failures.

“I don’t pressurise myself, don’t stress myself too much if I’m not scoring runs. Whatever I can do as a human – drill-wise, fitness-wise, I’m doing everything. During the periods, I am not scoring I learn a lot and I try and better myself. It is a new challenge and I have fun when the pressure increases. I take it positively, I never find failures bad,” quoted Shikhar Dhawan.

He also emphasized on the fact that any player can go through a lean patch and it comes down to one good innings that can give the confidence back to the player. “It’s not that I’ve not been scoring runs for ages, it’s just been for four-five matches and it can happen to anyone. I just kept the process going, kept faith in myself and I knew in one innings things will turn, so I’m happy the way I finished the game.” quoted the Indian opener.

He was also all praise for his opening partner and SRH skipper David Warner, who is going through a tremendous run with the bat this season so far. He credited Warner for taking the pressure off him during the game. “Batting with Warner takes pressure off me, he’s in such good form,” Dhawan said. “He gave us such a good start – when the team score was 50, he had scored about 30-35 of those runs and the rest were mine. So it is helpful, I am thankful that he is leading from the front and batting amazingly. Because of him I got time to settle in.” he concluded.
