The 2020 ICC U19 World Cup final was a pulsating, nerve-wracking, heart pumping and heartbreaking- for the Indian team and their fans- an encounter that saw the young Asian Tigers- Bangladesh- pip the four-time defending champions by three wickets to notch up their maiden World Cup in their cricket history.

However, it was a pity that a final- which was so keenly contested- ended on a controversial note with players of both teams engaging in a war of words and even pushing and shoving each other on the field in the immediate aftermath of Bangladesh’s historic triumph which even led to a Bangladeshi flag getting damaged.

After Bangladesh’s historic maiden triumph wishes galore from all corners of the cricketing world. Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes took to Twitter to express his heartfelt wishes for the newly crowned world champions. Rhodes wrote: “Great win for @BCBtigers in the #U19CWCFinal Gr8 for them and Gr8 for cricket”

But as soon as Jonty posted his message, his timeline was flooded with questions regarding the behaviour of the Bangladesh team after the victory. To which Jonty replied: It’s Gr8 for them; to learn from their experiences. All life depends on your perspective. I don’t think they will do that again”

Meanwhile, Akbar Ali– the World Cup-winning captain who showed nerves of steel in the finals- said such things should not happen in cricket and pleaded sorry for his teams’ misdemeanour in the aftermath of the final.

“What happened, it should not [have] happened, I don’t know what exactly happened. I didn’t ask what was going on. But, you know, in the final, emotion can come out, and sometimes the boys were getting pumped, and emotions were coming through,” said Akbar in the post-match conference.

On the other hand, Priyam Garg, the India captain, was pretty clear as to who should be blamed considering the sequence of events that happened to lead into that moment.
