In the second Test of the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, India finally managed to bury their Adelaide Ghosts, where they had registered their lowest ever Test total of 36 runs, and emerged victorious in the game at Melbourne Cricket Ground by 8 wickets to level the marquee series by 1-1.

The right-arm off-break bowler Ravi Ashwin played a vital role in India’s victory at MCG as he managed to rattle the opposition batsmen across both the innings. Ashwin ended up with 5 wickets in the second game. He picked the wickets of Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, and skipper Tim Paine in the first innings while in the second innings he sent Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Hazlewood back to the pavilion.

After the comprehensive win, Ashwin took to his official Twitter handle to congratulate his teammates for the top effort and also lauded two debutants Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj for showing their class and character in their first game in the purest format of the game.

Prithi Ashwin reveals the reaction of Ravi Ashwin after winning the Melbourne Test

“When your backs are up against the wall, lean back and enjoy the support of the wall!! Well done to the entire team and what a win that was. Special mention to Mohd Siraj and @RealShubmanGill,” Ravi Ashwin tweeted.

The wife of 34-year-old, Prithi Ashwin also congratulated the Men in Blue for a classic victory against Australia at MCG. Prithi also revealed how she has never seen Ashwin as ecstatic as he was after winning the Boxing Day Test.

“I have seen/ spoken to Ashwin after every Test he has played and after a lot of wins. But I have never seen him this happy, satisfied and light (can I say?) with a smile in his eyes in almost 10 years.”

India will now be up against the Australian cricket team in the third Test of the marquee series, starting from January 7 at Sydney Cricket Ground followed by the last Test at The Gabba in Brisbane from January 15 to January 19.

Despite the win in Melbourne, the visitors are again expected to make some changes in their squad ahead of the third Test to accommodate opening batsman Rohit Sharma, who will be soon joining the team after completing his 14-day mandatory quarantine period in Sydney.
