While Ambati Rayudu last played a game for India in 2019, he has been a regular feature in the Indian Premier League. Over the years, he has been one of India’s most underrated players in both, the Indian T20 league, as well as the domestic circuit.

After announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in July 2019, the 36-year-old changed his decision and made himself available for selection after two months. The batter recently expressed his desire to play for the next three years. He even said that he was working on his fitness.

“I would love to keep playing till I am in good form and fit. I will be ready for the next cycle, which is three years and I am working hard on my fitness,” said Ambati Rayudu, as quoted by The New Indian Express. The Andhra Pradesh batter even mentioned the fact that he participated in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, and felt that he was in good shape.

I feel unfortunate about missing out on the Test cap: Ambati Rayudu

“I recently played the Vijay Hazare Trophy which is five one-day games in six days which I got through well. I am in good shape and I hope to continue to play at least for the next three years,” he added. However, the right-handed batter has been a regular for CSK in the IPL and has been with them since 2018.

As a matter of fact, it is this league that helped him to play limited-overs cricket for the Indian team. However, despite all his talent, Rayudu never played a red-ball game for his county. Thus, he threw light on the same.

“It is a great honor to represent India and I am happy that I represented India in the white ball format-ODI and T20s. I feel unfortunate about missing out on the Test cap. But I don’t regret it as I have given my best. I am happy for the opportunities I got to represent the team and that in itself is a great honor.” he said. The former Indian batter has played 55 ODIs and six T20Is for India respectively.
