Anushka Sharma slammed the former India cricketer Farokh Engineer for dragging her in his comment criticising the Indian selectors. The latter had claimed that an Indian selector wearing a blazer served Anushka tea during the 2019 World Cup in England. However, after Anushka’s statement on Twitter, Engineer has apologised stating that he had just said it in the jest and also praised the Bollywood actress.

Anushka posted a long statement on Twitter after Farokh Engineer’s comments went viral and responded to all the criticisms she faced so far. The former cricketer though has now made a U-turn on his statement and has called Anushka ‘a lovely girl’. He also went on to say that the matter was unnecessary blown up while also praising the Indian captain and the coach.

“I just said it in a jest and it’s being made a mountain out of a molehill. Poor Anushka has been dragged into it, she is a lovely girl. Virat Kohli is a brilliant captain and coach Ravi Shastri is extremely good. The entire matter is being blown up unnecessarily. It turned out to be a selector as he was wearing an all India blazer,” Farokh Engineer said in an interview to Republic TV.

Farokh Engineer maintains his stance

Farokh Engineer also cleared that he had no intention to drag Anushka Sharma in the matter and was only taking on the selectors. He also apologised to the actress and said he wasn’t trying to demean her with his statement. Having said that, he maintained his stance stating that he indeed saw a selector serving her tea. And Farokh also went on to say that even he would have offered Anushka tea if he was a selector.

During his earlier statement, Farokh Engineer had slammed the selectors and also described the panel led by MSK Prasad as ‘Mickey Mouse Selection Committee’. “We have got a Mickey Mouse selection committee. Virat Kohli has a major impact (in the process) which is very good. But how are the selectors qualified? Between them, have they played about 10-12 Test matches,” Engineer had said before backing Dilip Vengsarkar to be at the helm.
