India registered a thrilling victory at Lord’s and took a 1-0 lead in the Test match series against England. The hosts seemed to be in control of the game on the final day but eventually lost the plot. The England skipper Joe Root however feels that the team has taken good learning from the match and are all keen to bounce back in the series.

The two countries will battle it out against each other in the third Test match at Headingley starting on Wednesday, August 25. In the second Test, India had 60 overs to wrap up the innings of the host. The pace attack under the spirited captain Virat Kohli who was seen super active on the field, charging up the players, pulled a fascinating victory.

Ahead of the third Test match, Root was asked in a press conference whether England discussed managing the Indian captain Virat Kohli.  Root asserted that he could have been better as a captain in taking few calls on the field during the second Test. He also pointed that there is a lot left in the series and that the team is all prepared.

“I think there are always conversations, you are always trying to find one-percenters in ways you can deal with different situations in the game. And I think we have done some good learning on the back of the last game. I think we could have managed certain areas differently, me as a captain, as I mentioned after the game. Different passages in that last innings and the third innings as well where we could have gone about things slightly differently. Look, there’s 3 massive games left in this series, there’s a lot to play for and we are desperate to bounce back strongly,” said Root as reported by Sportskeeda.

Virat and his team will play how they play and I just want us to go about and be the best version of ourselves: Joe Root

England attempted to be over-aggressive against the Indian tail-enders which gave an edge to the visitors. Root however added that the hosts will take precautions to avoid distractions. He also stated that he wants the team to be the best version of their selves.

“I think the most important thing for us regarding the theater and everything else surrounding the game is we’ve got to make sure we play the game how we want to play it and we look after it the best we can. And not get too distracted or drawn into anything that’s not us. We’ve got to be genuine to ourselves, genuine to how we are as individuals, and collectively and be as good as we can be. Now Virat and his team will play how they play and I just want us to go about and be the best version of ourselves,” Joe Root concluded.
