I want someone from the South to act in my biopic: Suresh Raina

Former Indian swashbuckling batsman Suresh Raina formed an invaluable part of the Indian setup during his time. The batsman was a part of India’s World Cup-winning squad in 2011 and has produced a lot of memorable and match-winning performances for the team. 

During his illustrious international career that spanned from 2005 to 2018, Raina represented India in 18 Test matches scoring 768 runs at an average of 26.5. The 34-year-old also featured in a whopping 226 One Day Internationals and 78 T20 Internationals scoring 5615 and 1605 runs respectively at an average of 35.3 and 29.2. 

The Muradnagar-born is also enjoying a dream ride in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since the inception of the T20 Extravaganza in 2008, Raina has featured for Chennai Super Kings in all ten seasons barring the two IPL editions when the Super Kings was suspended from the tournament. 

For his exemplary performance in the Indian league, the 34-year-old is hailed as Mr. IPL. He has featured in a stunning 200 IPL matches scoring 5491 runs at an average of 33.1 and a strike rate of 136.9. Raina played a key role in CSK lifting the elite T20 cup as many as three times in 2010, 2011, and 2018. 

Since Raina is deeply connected with the Chennai Super Kings, he wants a South actor to play a role in his biopic. In a live session on Instagram, Suresh Raina was asked to pick an actor he would like to play the lead role in his biopic. Raina was quick to answer as he revealed that he wants someone from the South industry to play his character on the big screen.

Elaborating on the reason behind the same, the 34-year-old added that a person from the South is more likely to connect with his role as they will be able to understand why he loves Chennai. The left-hander also revealed the name of the actors who can essay his role to perfection. Raina said his first pick to play the lead role in his biopic would be Suriya while he named Dulquer Salmaan’s as the second option.

“I really want someone who can take that emotion forward because playing for the country or CSK is not easy. I want someone from the South who can really do it. So they can understand how much Chennai and Chennai Super Kings mean to me. I have two three names in my mind, ” Raina said during a live session

When prodded, he revealed his choices. “I’d say Suriya. I am sure he can act. And Dulquer Salmaan is really good at acting.”
