The Jamaican sprint star also the Olympic and world record holder is on his visit to India at the moment. Bolt is in Banglore for a promotional event, where he played a 4 overs cricket match with Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s team as opponents. Bolt later told the media that he wanted to be a cricketer a fast bowler like the Jamaican greats Michael Holding and Courtney Walsh. But his father prevented him from that Bolt said, “Blame it on my dad.”
“My father is a huge cricket fan, but when I got to higher secondary, I had two options — cricket or athletics. My dad said because of the system in Jamaica, it would be better to take up athletics ‘You just have to run fast in athletics while it’s tougher to get into the national (cricket) team’.
Talking about his strength, his sprinting records he has set Bolt said “As an athlete, I have seen records come and go. They have always been broken, but if you want to be as great as me, you have to work very hard. That’s why my records will stand the time.” On many occassions he has maintained his stand that he wants to be called a legend and is the inspiration that drvies him to better his own set bench mark peformances and World record timings. When he was asked abouth the new generation of athelets coming and posing a challange to his rule on the track “There are quite a few runners who could challenge me but not beat me,” said a confident looking Usain Bolt who is in prepiardness to defend his title for a record 3rd time at the Rio Olympics next year.
The cricket he played at the Chinnaswami stadium was impressive as his team beat Yuvraj & Co. in the contest though a friendly one. He will surely love to explore a career as cticketer once his calls it a day from sprinting post 2017.
