Australia’s young all-rounder Cameron Green was met with disappointment as Cricket Australia (CA) announced a 23-member squad for the Australia tour of West Indies. Green was hoping to find a place in Australia’s squad for three One Day Internationals and five T20 Internationals against West Indies. However, the all-rounder was sidelined by the selectors.

Green made his debut for Australia during the third ODI of the three-match series against India in December 2020. Many were speculating that Green will be a part of Australia’s squad for the T20 World Cup, scheduled in India later this year. However, his snub from the West Indies tour has confirmed that he isn’t in the scheme of things.

Speaking about his exclusion for the upcoming West Indies tour, Cameron Green reckoned that he was initially informed that he will be a part of the team. However, he asserted that looking at the players selected he can say that he wasn’t picked as CA has chosen a strong squad that performed extremely well last year.

“I got told I was in the original expanded squad and then got told I just missed out. But looking at all the names on that list, you can see why. They’ve picked a really strong squad that has performed well over the past year. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it, but it’s an awesome squad and I’m sure they’ll do really well over there,” Green said as quoted by News 18.

For all kids growing up watching cricket Ashes is the pinnacle: Cameron Green

Green’s cricket career has been marred with injuries. However, the all-rounder has remained fit in the past year and he hopes to continue his stint as a professional cricketer without any roadblocks. The 21-year-old is also excited to be a part of Ashes later in the year against England.

Green is likely to be a part of Australia’s Test squad as in the four Test matches against India, the youngster scored 236 runs. “This might be my first year as a professional cricketer, I’ve gotten to this part of the year uninjured. It’s a nice little stepping stone going into the year to be fully fit and hit the ground running from day one. I’m looking forward to a good pre-season over here.

“For all kids growing up watching cricket this (Ashes) is the pinnacle. I’ve got a lot of fond memories growing up watching it. Going back to Ashton Agar scoring 98 (in the 2013 series), I remember everyone was talking about it for months after,” Cameron Green concluded.
