Emerging South Africa cricketer Dewald Brevis has recalled his very first meeting with the cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar. Dewald, who was a part of the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 said that he was laying on the floor of the gym and that is when Sachin appeared all of a sudden. Recalling that moment the youngster said that he had no clue how to react.

Brevis was roped in by the five-time champions for a whopping INR 3 crore at the two-day mega auction in February. The youngster had come into the auction at a base price of INR 20 lakh. Brevis, nicknamed ‘Baby AB’ made his arrival on the biggest stage after his outstanding batting performances in the ICC U19 World Cup 2022 in the Caribbean where he amassed 506 runs.

The small technical details he taught me were special: Dewald Brevis on Sachin Tendulkar

“I was laying on the floor of the gym and suddenly Sachin sir appeared at the door. I didn’t know what to do and the first time I shook his hand, it was insane. I have idolized him and the small technical details he taught me were special. It was great to learn from legends like him and coach Mahela,” said Brevis while speaking to the YouTube channel Cricket Fanatics.

Brevis finished IPL 2022 with 161 runs from the seven matches that he got to feature in, averaging 23 and a strike rate of 142.48 with his highest score being 49. The youngster also went on to pick up the key wicket of batting megastar Virat Kohli with a controversial leg before decision during a league match between MI and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The Mumbai Indians on the other hand had a forgettable campaign as they only registered their first win of the season after eight unsuccessful attempts. Unfortunately, for the former champions, it was too late by then as they had already become the first team to be officially knocked out of the competition.
