Veteran Indian cricketer, Irfan Pathan, and his life has been stricken by various disappointing and bitter points in his cricketing career in the recent months. The all-rounder was even dropped from his Baroda state team for the recent domestic competitions. This year’s huge Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 auction which changed the lives of many budding talented cricketers even from Baroda, but there were strangely no bidders for Pathan in the extravagant affair. However, the cricketer has now countered the media sharing his views on not being picked by any of the IPL franchises.
Nothing surprising happened at the auction
Pathan only featured in the first few games of the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 season and was then dropped due some conspiracies and controversies recently in Baroda cricket. Thus, he was not considered for selection for the rest of the domestic season. The southpaw batsman is also quite aware of the fact that he hasn’t played any type of competitive games for a while now. The various performances in the domestic competitions are considered as an important parameter by the various IPL franchises to invite valuable bids.
“I have not played first-class cricket this season, courtesy whatever happened in Baroda cricket. If I was the owner of an IPL team, I would not have picked myself. Now, I want to be in an environment where I can enjoy my cricket. Things can change then. This year, I was expecting whatever happened at the auctions,” said Pathan as quoted by the Indian Express.
I will prepare well for the next season
The Baroda all-rounder featured in a single game for the Gujrat Lions in the previous edition of the IPL and has not either played much of IPL cricket in recent seasons. Irfan hoped to prepare well for the next season and also gave a slight hint towards association with some franchise in this year’s IPL.
“Whatever is said and done. You always think there is a slim chance, one way or the other. I am going to prepare well for the next season, be it training or other stuff. I will go where my cricket takes me,” further revealed the all-rounder.
