The third Test of the four-match Test series between India and England is being played at Sardar Patel Stadium Ahmedabad, which got renamed as Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium on its inauguration day. The world’s largest stadium was set to see action, and the day finally came when India and England team walked up the iconic venue for the pink-ball Test. On the important day of the inauguration, Union Home Minister, along with President Ram Nath Kovind were present.

They were accompanied by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju. On the match day, Amit Shah addressed the people and stated that he is eagerly waiting for Cheteshwar Pujara to score a double ton on the ground and help India win the match. He also pointed out many memorable milestones that saw the light of the day on the same ground.

“This stadium is very memorable for Javagal Srinath. He took six wickets against South Africa on the same ground, Kapil Dev broke Richard’s Hadlee tally of wickets. On this same ground, Sunil Gavaskar achieved the milestone of 10,000 runs. On this same ground, Sachin Tendulkar achieved 18,000 ODI runs, and he completed his 20 years in international cricket here. I wish Pujara scores double century here, and he helps India to win against England,” said Shah on Wednesday on the inauguration of the stadium.

When the last time Cheteshwar Pujara played against England at Ahmedabad, he smashed a double ton, and Home Minister wants him to replicate the heroics again. Before the international cricket match, the iconic stadium welcomed the then US President Donald Trump for the ‘Namaste Trump’ event. On the match day, BCCI officials, including Jay Shah (secretary), Arun Dhumal (joint secretary), and Rajiv Shukla ( vice-president) were also present on the occasion to receive the honorable President.

The world’s largest stadium is equipped with all the facilities and has been prepared well with the help of shadow mapping to avoid shadows during the twilight period.
