Another former Indian Captain and legend Sunil Gavaskar spoke to NDTV about the prospect of both Dravid and Ganguly being appointed as the coach. He said that both those players are great leaders, great thinkers and either of them would be a terrific choice as the coach of the Indian team. He also said that he will make sure that moth of them are part of the coaching staff as he will appoint one as a coach and the other as his assistant.
Gavaskar said First and foremost I think they’ve got to be available. Both would be terrific choices for the Indian Coaches job. Both are leaders, both are good thinkers of the game, both have performed at the highest level, both have played in all the formats of the game, so I think that would be absolutely fantastic for Indian cricket. That’s a tough one. Just like you have a Captain and a Vice Captain maybe I will make one a coach and one a Vice Coach or assistant Coach. I’ll get both of them if both are available. Honestly, if both these guys are available then I certainly would never want to miss on that experience, that expertise that these two great servants of Indian cricket will bring to the Indian team.
Some of the other candidates in for the role are the current assistant coach Sanjay Bangar, former Aussie cricketer Mike Hussey and former Kiwi captain Stephen Fleming.
