ICC set to investigate the ugly episode of Australian crowd abusing Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah

Day 3 of the ongoing third Test of the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground ended on an ugly note for the visitors as India’s two pace sensations Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were racially abused by the crowd at SCG. After such serious claims, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to investigate the whole matter and hunt down the people who abused the players.

After the day’s play, India’s stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane and veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin were seen complaining about the whole matter to the on-field umpires Paul Wilson and Paul Reiffel. The Indian players brought this into the notice of the authorities that they were subjected to abuse by a few drunk supporters in the stands. This was followed by Siraj and Bumrah having a conversation with the security officials.

Speaking about the whole issue, renowned journalist Boria Majumdar revealed the nasty words spoken by the Australian crowd to the Indian pacers. “He (Siraj) was called Wan…. Mother F… Monkey etc etc. This is just ridiculous. How on earth in an advanced society does someone get subjected to this? Unbelievable and unacceptable. Hope we see some action on this. @BCCI shouldn’t leave this,” Boria tweeted.

ICC to check the CCTV cameras to fetch the details of the abusers

As soon as the incident was reported, ICC got into action and are trying their level best to catch the main culprit. As per the reports by The Sydney Morning Herald, the ground operators of the Sydney Cricket Ground along with Venues NSW and ICC are working to track down the people responsible for the incident, after staff stationed on one of the boundaries were also made aware of the abuse.

Also, SCG has access to over 800 security cameras around the ground and due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the authorities have proper details of all the 10,075 spectators who arrived on the ground to watch the Test game between India and Australia. The venue will be making CCTV footage available to the ICC.

The Day 3 of the Test match ended with Australia taking a lead of 197 runs and eight wickets in hand as the visitors were bundled out for 244 while batting in their first innings.
