It’s time for the last day in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers in the UAE. For the third place, Ireland and Namibia will face off. Both lost their semi-final match versus Netherlands and the Papua New Guinea (PNG) respectively. Though their chances of winning the tournament ended, a third-place finish won’t be a bad ending by any means. The last match is the all-important final in Dubai.
In the league stage, PNG beat the Netherlands chasing a rather modest total. A humdinger of a final seems to be in store. Both teams lost only a solitary game in the league phase and are in red hot form. PNG did exceptionally well, winning by 18 runs after scoring 130 in their semi-final. On the other, the Dutch were more clinical against Gary Wilson’s Ireland and won due to their bowling.
Pitch Report
Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai
The pitch in Dubai has been fairly good for batting. But in the last few games, it has been seen that the bowlers have also had their say after mixing their pace on a consistent basis. Batting second can be tough and even scores over 130 can be defended. Batting first should be the way forward.
Weather Report
The atmosphere in the afternoon won’t be all that hot with the temperature around the 30 degrees Celsius. In the night match, it will come down to 28 degrees Celsius. The humidity will start in the 30s and will go up in excess of 50 by the end of the day. There are no chances of rain with no clouds.
Final, Netherlands vs PNG
Netherlands
Netherlands’ batting has been reasonable. Max O’Dowd and Ben Cooper, their openers, have over 200 runs and looked good. The middle order has the likes of Ryan ten Doeschate and Colin Ackermann, who are in good form. But it’s their bowling that has stood out. Van Meekeren, Van der Merwe and Glover have been amongst the wickets. Klaasen and Seelaar have lent good support.
Probable XI
Max O’Dowd, Ben Cooper, Colin Ackermann, Pieter Seelaar (C), Ryan ten Doeschate, Roelof van der Merwe, Scott Edwards (wk), Tim van der Gugten, Fred Klaasen, Brandon Glover, Paul van Meekeren

PNG has as many as five batsmen with over 100 runs. Tony Ura and Assad Vala remain to be their leading run-scorer.
