In Group B, there are two matches scheduled on Thursday. The UAE and Nigeria will face off in the day’s first match. Nigeria have lost three matches in a row and another loss will literally oust them from the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers. The UAE recovered from their early defeat versus Oman, but Jersey slapped them with their second defeat. They are placed fifth in the table below Ireland.

In the other match, Hong Kong and Canada will be crossing swords. Both teams are in completely contrasting form. Even as Hong Kong are yet to open their account, having lost three matches, Canada are on top, winning as many matches. Last time, Canada, led by Navneet Dhaliwal, took down Ireland and their confidence would’ve sky-rocketed after the victory in Abu Dhabi.

Pitch Report

Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery 1, Abu Dhabi

Batting hasn’t been all that tough on the pitch, but the batters have had to work hard. The spinners have gotten some purchase out of the decks. Out of three matches, two were won by the team, batting first. The last game was a low scoring between Bermuda and Namibia was a low-scoring affair. In the early hours it remains fairly good for batting and as the day progresses, it becomes tougher.

Weather Report

The playing conditions won’t be a pleasant one for the players with the temperature extending up to 36 degrees Celsius. It will remain the same throughout the duration of the two encounters. The humidity will be in the 30s and 40s. There are no chances of rain and the clouds won’t be there.

Match 28, United Arab Emirates vs Nigeria, Group B

United Arab Emirates

UAE has depended heavily on Rohan Mustafa. The all-rounder has 101 runs and seven wickets. Most importantly, he has been superb bowling at the death. Chirag Suri has looked reasonable at the top, having scored 87 runs. Muhammad Usman and Rameez Shehzad need to be a little more consistent. In bowling, the onus will be on the spinners to put a lid on the run-scoring with support from pacers.

Probable XI

Rohan Mustafa, Chirag Suri, Rameez Shahzad, Muhammad Usman, Waheed Ahmed, Mohammad Boota (wk), Sultan Ahmed, Darius D’Silva, Junaid Siddiqui, Ahmed Raza (C), Zahoor Khan

Nigeria

There hasn’t been any standout performer for Nigeria thus far. Chimezie Onwuzulike and Leke Oyede have got a couple of 39. Sulaimon Runsewe has 51 runs at 25.50, but the rest of the batting has misfired. In the bowling are, Abiodun Abioye is their leading wicket-taker with three scalps. The Okpes have two wickets each. Sylvester Okpe has the best economy among the regular bowlers.

Probable XI

Daniel Ajekun, Leke Oyede, Sulaimon Runsewe, Chimezie Onwuzulike, Ademola Onikoyi (C & WK), Isaac Okpe, Daniel Gim, Joseph Adedeji, Sylvester Okpe, Chima Akachukwu, Abiodun Abioye

Match 29, Hong Kong vs Canada, Group B

Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s batting hasn’t delivered mostly in the tournament. Kinchit Shah played well in the first game with 79 and then his form saw a downslide. The next top score is by Nizakat Khan, 31. Barring the two knocks, there has been nothing from their batters. There’s nothing much to speak about their bowling either. Kyle Christie has two wickets, but hasn’t gotten much support from the others.

Probable XI

Nizakat Khan, Ahsan Abbasi, Kinchit Shah, Aizaz Khan (C), Waqas Barkat, Simandeep Singh, Haroon Arshad, Scott McKenchie (wk), Ehsan Khan, Raag Kapur, Kyle Christie

Canada

Canada’s batting has gone from strength to strength. Nitish Kumar scored his third fifty and has 183 runs at an average of 96.50. Navneet Dhaliwal scored 69 last time around and he is in good form. Their bowling has stepped up big time. Gordon , Nikhil Dutta and Dillon Heyliger have economy rates of under six. Heyliger is also their leading wicket-taker. Zafar has been hard to get away as well.

Probable XI

Rizwan Cheema, Navneet Dhaliwal (C), Nitish Kumar, Ravinderpal Singh, Hamza Tariq (wk), Dillon Heyliger, Nicholas Kirton, Saad Bin Zafar, Nikhil Dutta, Romesh Eranga, Jeremy Gordon
