In Group B, Ireland and Jersey will face off. Both teams are hanging in the middle of the points table. Ireland need a victory as they are fifth in the table with a worse Net Run Rate than their opponent. The 10-run defeat at the hands of Canada has put the skids under Gary Wilson and Co. Another loss could put them under pressure. Jersey will also wish to make a comeback after losing to Hong Kong.
In the second match, Oman and Canada will cross swords. Canada is the only unbeaten team in the tournament, having won three games in succession. Their batting has been tremendous with apt support from the bowling unit. Oman hasn’t been mere pushovers either. Barring their loss to Ireland, the side, led by Zeeshan Maqsood, hasn’t put a foot wrong and are second in the table.
Pitch Report
Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi
Out of the nine games thus far, five have been won by the chasing teams. But the last three matches went in favour of the side, batting first. It shows that batting is starting to look difficult on the strip with the progression of games. Hence, teams can opt to bat first and then defend their score.
Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery 1, Abu Dhabi
At this venue, the first three matches, were won by the team, batting first. But Oman and UAE won their matches chasing. Batting hasn’t been all that easy on the strip and teams have strained to get even 120. The cracks could open up further as the tournament moves ahead.
Weather Report
The playing conditions will be taxing in the morning with the temperature around the 36 degrees Celsius mark. The humidity will be in the 30s. In will stay the same throughout the duration of the two encounters. Players will need to stay hydrated in the hot and humid atmosphere.
