Zimbabwean hearts were broken as the West Indies clinched a humdinger and quarter-final qualification ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2016. Brandon Mavuta was reduced to tears as his side fell short by 2 runs. In spite of a massive win over a hapless Scotland, South Africa failed to secure qualification to the quarter-final. However, the win will certainly boost the morale of the side as they enter the plate competition.

West Indies break Zimbabwean hearts

West Indies picked up a slender 2 wicket run over Zimbabwe. Winning the toss and opting to field, the West Indies got off to a bright start. However, spinner Wesley Madhevere struck, breaking 2 crucial partnerships. Shamar Springer slammed a classy 61, thus helping the Windies achieve a respectable total of 226. Despite losing early wickets, Shaun Snyder and Jeremy Ives began the rebuilding process to good effect. The duo added 51 runs before Snyder was trapped by West Indian spinner Gidron Pope. Adam Keefe compiled a wonderful 43 before he too was trapped by Springer. Within touching distance of victory, Richard Ngarava was unfortunately ‘mankanded’ by Keemo Paul, giving West Indies the win and passage to the quarter-final of the World Cup.

South Africa pickup morale-boosting win

South Africa picked up a morale-boosting 10 wicket win over Scotland. Winning the toss and opting to field, Tony de Zorzi’s bowlers repaid his faith by restricting the Scots to 127 in 45 overs. Wicket-keeper batsman Harris Carnegie top-scored for the Scots with an unbeaten 29. South African openers Liam Smith and Kyle Verreynne ended up with identical batting figures as the Proteas cruised to a 10 wicket win. Although the win does not significantly change the group tables, South Africa will enter the plate competition with a huge abundance of confidence and morale.

Bangladesh Tear Namibia to Shreds

Bangladesh topped off their impressive Word Cup with an 8 wicket win over African nation Namibia. Bowlers Islam, Shawon and Miraz all starred with the ball picking up two wickets apiece as the Namibians were bowled out for a poultry 65 off 32.5 overs. Opener Niko Davin top scored with 19 runs. The Bangladeshi’s lost both their openers with the score at 13. However, Joyraz Sheik steadied the ship with a fighting 34 to ensure a Namibia victory.
