Another amazing knock from Anmolpreet Singh saw India enter the final of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016 courtesy of a 97-run win over Sri Lanka. The Indians will face the winner of the second semifinal between hosts Bangladesh and West Indies. Pakistan progressed in the plate competition with a thumping win over Nepal. Afghanistan pulled off a shocking 8-wicket win over New Zealand.

Anmolpreet Singh heroics secure spot in final

Anmolpreet Singh starred once again with the bat, scoring a brilliant 72. Despite losing skipper Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant early on in the innings, Anmolpreet and Sarfaraz began the rebuilding process with the latter scoring a well-made 59. Washington Sundar and Armaan Jaffer too chipped in, scoring 43 and 29 respectively. A plethora of cameos towards the end saw the Indians finish on 267/9 in their 50 overs. The Sri Lankan innings got off to a horrific start losing 3 wickets, with skipper Charith Asalanka among the wickets. Kamindu Mendis (39) and Shammu Ashan (32) led a brief resistance, but to no avail. Left-arm spinner Mayank Dagar picked up 3 wickets as the Lankans were blasted out 170, ensuring safe passage to the final of the tournament.

Afghanistan stun New Zealand

New Zealand’s horrific World Cup campaign continued with yet another loss to an associate nation. Skipper Josh Finnie won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the Kiwi batsmen let him down as Zia-ur-Rehman and Shamsurrahman ran riot. The Kiwis found themselves at 35/6 at the 18th over. Clarkson (25) and Parikh (48) saved the Kiwi blushes as they crawled to a pantry 135. Tariq once more came up with the goods when called upon with a useful and unbeaten half century. He was well supported by Ihsanullah who made a useful 47 in his side’s cause. The Afghans picked up an 8-wicket win.

Pakistan thump Nepal

Handed the captaincy today, opener Gauhar Hafeez and his men were put into bat first. Hafeez and his partner were both dismissed for ducks. Hasan Mohsin continued his amazing form with the bat, smashing a brilliant 117. Saif Badar supported Mohsin with a well-made 88 thus propelling Pakistan to 258. Hasan Mohsin was the star once more with the ball as he and debutant Irfan Liaqat ripped through the Nepal batting order. Prem Tamang helped Nepal save some face with an unbeaten 65. Hasan Mohsin however, was the star of the show as he ended up with figures of 4/42.
