After all the excitement in the league stages and the semis, the 2019 World Cup boils down to the final showdown at the Lord’s — The Home of Cricket. New Zealand and hosts England are set to fight it out for glory. Both the teams lost three matches each in the first round and had gone through slumps. In the semis, they rolled over India and England, both of whom lost only one game prior to the semi-final.

The Kiwis after scoring a modest 239 at the Old Trafford in Manchester and blew away the Indian batting, racing to an 18-run victory. The Three Lions, on the other hand, avenged their league-stage and warm-up loss at the hands of the Aussies with an eight-wicket triumph. In the main round, the Brits slapped the Kiwis with a 119-run loss, but the final is expected to be a different ballgame altogether.

Here is the guide to select the Captain and Vice-Captain for Dream11 Fantasy:

Captain Suggestions:

Jason Roy

Jason Roy is in ominous form in the World Cup. After returning from his hamstring injury, he has notched three half-centuries on the trot. In six innings, the Durban-born has hammered 426 runs at 71. His strike-rate of 117.03 shows how lethal he has been at the top of the order. The 28-year-old scored 60 the last time he faced the Kiwis’ bowling and will be looking for another knock of substance.

Kane Williamson

There have been times when Kane Williamson has fought alone. His numbers are stupendous as the 28-year-old has racked up 548 runs in eight innings at an average of 91.33. With a couple of the fifties and as many centuries, he has been the Black Caps’ standout batter. Williamson has also effectively rolled his arms over and has a couple of wickets in his kitty. He’ll want to lead from the front.

Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow racked up his second World Cup century versus the Black Caps in Chester-Le-Street and has a good understanding of what’s in the store. The Yorkshireman strained for form earlier in the mega event but has found his mojo back with the passage of time. The 29-year-old is also four runs short the 500-run mark and is also England’s second highest run-getter after Joe Root.

Vice-Captain Suggestions:

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes has been effective in the World Cup, having already scored 381 runs and picking up seven wickets. The Christchurch-born already has four half-centuries to his name in nine innings, including three in the 80s. With the ball, he has picked up seven wickets at an economy rate of 4.72. Stokes didn’t have a great outing versus the Kiwis in the league stage and he’ll want to make amends.

Ross Taylor

Ross Taylor stepped up with a match-winning 74 versus India and would be high on confidence. The 35-year-old has scored 335 runs in eight innings at an average of 41.87. The right-hander has three half-centuries and is a reliable figure in the Kiwis’ batting lineup. He could only manage 28 against the Brits before getting run out. Taylor would be looking for a better performance one last time.

Martin Guptill

After his unbeaten 73 against Sri Lanka, Martin Guptill hasn’t done anything of sorts with the bat. As far as Guptill is concerned, there’s no dearth of talent. He is due for a big knock and the stage is set for him to unleash his strokes. However, Guptill has simply been outstanding in the outfield, having taken eight catches and inflicted some run-outs, including that of MS Dhoni in the semi-final.
