England and Bangladesh will face off in Cardiff on Saturday after beginning the tournament in a similar fashion. Both the teams posted 300+ against South Africa at the Oval and ended up on the winning side in their respective first games. England went down in a high-scoring thriller against Pakistan despite centuries by Jos Buttler and Joe Root in the second match. On the other hand, Bangladesh had their share of luck on their way to defend 244 against New Zealand but lost by two wickets.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the crucial game between England and Bangladesh:

0 – Number of times Bangladesh won while defending less than 250 in an ODI outside Asia since the 2011 World Cup. They won batting first outside Asia on seven instances since the 2011 CWC; all of those when they posted 250+.


1 – England’s loss against Pakistan in the previous game was their first unsuccessful ODI chase at home since the start of 2016. England batted second on 20 instances in this period winning in 17, one game ended in a Tie while another ending without a result.


2 – Bangladesh won both the matches they played at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. They defeated Australia in 2005 and New Zealand in 2017; both by five wickets.


2 – Bangladesh got the better of England in the previous two meetings at the World Cup as they defeated the English team in 2011 and 2015 editions. England won the 2007 edition match by four wickets chasing 144.


3 – Shakib Al Hasan has scored a fifty in each of his previous three ODI innings; his first such streak thus far. The all-rounder has scored five fifties in his previous six innings in ODI cricket.


3Eoin Morgan has been dismissed only three times in the previous 16 ODI innings without scoring a fifty. He got out for 18 against Sri Lanka in a big chase last year and for nine runs against Pakistan; both resulted in defeats.

He bagged a duck against Ireland in which England were rescued by lower-order contributions. Morgan amassed 822 runs at an average of 82.2 in those 16 innings with help of a hundred and nine half-centuries.


4Mushfiqur Rahim has scored four fifties in ODI cricket against England. Rahim has scored 441 runs across 11 ODI innings against the English side at an average of 44.1.


17.4 – Adil Rashid picks up a wicket every 17.4 balls in the ODIs against Bangladesh. In the 3-match ODI series played in 2016 in Bangladesh, the leg-spinner bagged 10 wickets at an average of 14.5.


307 – Jos Buttler has scored the most number of ODI runs in Cardiff. The keeper-batsman scored 307 runs in seven innings at this venue at an average of 76.75 with help of four fifties.
