The cricketing world will be desperately hoping for some action, after two washed out days, when Australia and Pakistan lock horns at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton in the 17th match of the World Cup 2019. The last two games of the tournament were abandoned due to rain and the fans will be keeping their fingers crossed, praying that the rain gods show mercy today. Pakistan have already lost one point due to rain and would be desperate to get the maximum points from the upcoming game against Australia.

Australia, the defending champions, enter the contest after suffering a crushing loss at the hands of India on Sunday. Not much went right for the five-time champions against the formidable Indian team. Asked to bowl first, Australia ended up conceding a mammoth total of 352 for 5. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya starred with the bat for the Men in Blue.

In reply, Australia failed to hit the top gear from the start. They eventually paid the price for the same as run-rate kept mounting only to get all out for 316. The scoreline might suggest that Australia gave India a tough fight but it was not so. They would have finished well below 300 if not for Alex Carey’s heroics in a losing cause.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s last game was against Sri Lanka but the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Pakistan, however, will be confident of beating Australia. In their last outing, they had defeated hosts and favourites England in a high-scoring encounter. After posting 348, Pakistan had restricted England to 334 for 9.

How’s the weather expected to be?

While the cricketing fraternity is praying for a rain-free game, the signs are not promising at all. The chances of rain are around 50 per cent when the game gets underway in Taunton. The chances of rainfall will only increase as the game progresses. According to AccuWeather, the chances of the heavens opening are more throughout the match. Thus it would not be surprising if yet another game is washed out. The temperature will hover between 12-15 degree Celsius while the humidity will be in the 60s and 70s.
