Upbeat England will be eyeing to make the most of their momentum when they take on exciting West Indies at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. The hosts and one of the firm favourites, England bounced back from their shock defeat at the hands of Pakistan by dismantling Bangladesh. West Indies, on the other hand, have not quite managed to build upon the thumping seven-wicket win over Pakistan in their World Cup-opener.

In their last outing, England had made light work of Bangladesh. The batting heavy side had piled up 386 – their highest-ever World Cup total. Jason Roy starred with the bat, scoring a sublime 153 while there were impressive fifties from Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler too. The bowlers then did extremely well to bowl out Bangladesh for 280 on a flat pitch to power their side to a massive 106-run win. England will be brimming with confidence after that huge win and will be keen to make the most of the momentum.

West Indies, on the other hand, had to suffer because of rain as their game against South Africa was washed out. The two-time winners had South Africa reeling at 29 for 2 before rain intervened. Prior to that game, West Indies had suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of defending champions Australia. Jason Holder & Co. had Australia reeling at 38 for 4 and then 79 for five. However, they could not finish strongly as Australia recovered from the disastrous start to post 288. With the bat too, West Indies failed to finish strongly and ended up on 273 for 9.

Both England and West Indies, nonetheless, had met earlier this year during the 5-match ODI series in the Caribbeans and it was a blockbuster. Batsmen from both the sides were in red-hot form as the fiercely fought series ended 2-2. With both the teams in similar form at the moment, one can expect a thrilling clash once again.

How’s the weather expected to be:

The weather continues to hog the limelight in the ongoing tournament. Thursday saw the fourth game of this tournament being washed out and the signs are not promising for today’s game either. According to AccuWeather, showers can dampen the game between England and West Indies.

The chances of rainfall will be around 50 per cent at toss time. Throughout the day, the chances will be hovering in the late 40s and early 50s. The temperature will be in the range of 15-19 degree Celsius while the humidity will be in 80s at the start.
