England bounced back from their defeat against Pakistan with a comfortable 106 run victory over Bangladesh on Saturday. They will now take on Windies who made an impressive start to the tournament with a thumping win over Pakistan. West Indies went down to the defending champions Australia by 15 runs and their 3rd game against a struggling South African team turned out to be a washout. The two sides faced off in a 5-match ODI series in the Caribbean earlier this year which was shared 2-2.

All the major stats and numbers ahead of the key clash between England and Windies:

1 – Only once Windies have defeated England in a World Cup game – it was during the 1979 World Cup final which was their first meeting in the CWC. England won all the five they have played since then and the last of it was in 2011.


2 – Number of ODI matches that Windies have won in the last 11 years in England. They played 15 ODIs in England since the start of 2009 out of which they lost ten. Two matches ended without a result while another game ended in a tie.


3 – England’s top three average in excess of 55 in ODIs against the Windies. Jonny Bairstow scored 403 runs in nine innings at an average of 67.16 while his opening partnership averages 55.28 having scored 387 runs in seven outings. Their Test skipper Joe Root amassed 704 runs in 14 innings with the help of three tons at an average of 58.66.


49 – Ashley Nurse needs one more wicket to complete 50 wickets in ODI cricket. The off-spinner didn’t get a chance to bowl in the first game against Pakistan and third game against South Africa which was washed out after eight overs. In the second game against Australia, all ten wickets were claimed by the pacers.


610 – Eoin Morgan has amassed 610 runs in ODIs at the Rose Bowl in Southampton while no other player has even got 500 runs in this format. Morgan’s 610 runs at this venue came from 12 innings with two hundreds and two fifties.


1596Chris Gayle has scored 1596 runs in ODI cricket against England; the most he has aggregated against any side in ODIs. Gayle scored those runs in 33 innings with four tons and eight fifties at an average of 51.48.

Earlier during the home series against England, Gayle amassed 424 runs in four innings with two hundreds and two half-centuries. He struck a total of 39 sixes during that series; the most by any player in an ODI series/tournament.


2007 – Last time Windies defeated England in ODI on the English soil was way back in 2007. In these 12 years, the two sides faced off on nine instances in ODI cricket in this part of the world. England won on eight occasions while another game ended without a result.
