Prior to the 2019 World Cup, England was deemed to be amongst the firm favourites to win the championship. However, the team, captained by Eoin Morgan, is in a bit of tangle with two matches left for them. The Three Lions are currently placed fourth in the points table with eight points from seven matches. Their next match is against India, the recently crowned number-one ODI team, at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.

With Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan still in contention for a berth in the semi-final, another goof-up could set the cat amongst the pigeons in the English camp. The Virat Kohli-led Indian team has been on a rampage, winning all their matches, and the task for the Brits won’t be easy by any means. The Men in Blue thumped the Windies by 125 runs in Manchester and another victory will take them to the next round.

Here is the guide to select the Captain and Vice-Captain for Dream11 Fantasy:

Captain Suggestions

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli floundered versus the Proteas, but ever since has been amongst the runs. With 316 runs in five matches at an average of 63.20, he has been consistent. In fact, in his last four innings, he got 50 plus scores in all of them. Even while batting on difficult wickets, he has maintained a strike-rate of 98.44. In the last game, he got his first Player of the Match award in the World Cup and will be keen to keep performing well.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma started the World Cup with scores of 122*, 57 and 140. But he succumbed to a couple of failures in the last two games. While Mujeeb Ur Rahman dismissed him versus the Afghans, Kemar Roach accounted for his wicket in the erstwhile match. Rohit is a kind of a batsman, who doesn’t throw away his starts. Despite the low scores, Rohit is currently India’s leading run-scorer in the tournament with 338 runs at 84.50.

Joe Root

In the last match, Joe Root got out after scoring eight and it literally dashed England’s chances of a victory. It shows how much he valuable he is to the Brits setup. The Yorkshireman has 432 runs in seven matches at an average of 72. Last year, Root notched a couple of centuries against India in the bilateral series and has an understanding of what’s in store. His team will be desperately wanting their premier batsman to fire.

Vice-Captain Suggestions:

Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow has scored 245 runs in seven matches at an average of 35. The 29-year-old has got the runs, but he has looked far from his very best. He has a career average of nearly 46, which shows that he has been a tad off colour in this World Cup. However, Bairstow isn’t someone, who likes to stay bogged down for long. He has faced the Indian attack before and the Men in Blue need to dismiss him early.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes has been unlucky, to say the least in the mega event. In the game against Sri Lanka, he was stranded on 82, while his knock of 89 versus the Aussies went in vain. After Root, Stokes has been second-best amongst the English batters. He has 291 runs in seven matches at an average of 58.20. With the leather in hand, he has been effective as well, having picked up six wickets at an economy of 4.59.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya has been equally effective with both bat and ball. The 25-year-old scored 46 versus the Windies and was also involved in a useful stand with MS Dhoni, who got an unbeaten 56, that bailed India out of jail. In five matches, Hardik has scored 142 runs at a strike-rate of 142. Moreover, the all-rounder has five wickets to his name, though he has been a tad expensive compared to his other teammates.
