Today is the day which will probably decide all the four semifinalists of the ongoing World Cup. With India and Australia already in the last four, three teams – England, New Zealand and Pakistan – are in contention for the two remaining slots. And with England taking on New Zealand at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street today, the semifinalists will be clear by the end of the day.

A win for England will mean both England and New Zealand enter the last four. In that case, New Zealand will end up with 11 points and Pakistan can also end up with the same points if they win their last game. Both the teams will then have the same number of wins and thus net run-rate will end the tie. In such a scenario, New Zealand are more than likely to progress. However, if New Zealand beat England and Pakistan beat Bangladesh, New Zealand and Pakistan will join India and Australia in the last four.

But beating England will not be an easy task at all for the Kiwis. Both the teams enter this game on the back of completely contrasting results. While the English defeated India by 31 runs to end their two-match losing streak, New Zealand lost to Australia by 86 runs to suffer their second defeat of the competition. Going by the current form, England are slight favourites but the Kiwis are definitely capable of bouncing back and beating the hosts.

How’s the weather expected to be:

As far as the weather is concerned, both the teams will be extremely delighted to know that the forecast is very promising. At the start of the match, the chances of rainfall will be around one per cent. According to AccuWeather, the chances will gradually increase with the passage of time but will not cross the 5 per cent-mark. Thus the worst that can happen today is some slight drizzle in Chester-le-Street. The cloud cover will be around 25 per cent throughout while the humidity will hover between 60s and 40s.
