Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will be eyeing their first win of the World Cup 2019 when they lock horns against each other at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff in the seventh match of the tournament. Both the teams have started their campaign with heavy losses and with the road ahead only going to get tougher, a win in the upcoming game will be huge boost for their confidence. On the other hand, a loss can very much prove fatal for either of the two teams’ chances of progressing ahead.

Afghanistan put up a spirited performance against Australia but the defending champions were just too strong for them. Batting first, Afghanistan recovered from a shaky start to post a respectable total of 207. Najibullah Zadran starred with the bat by scoring a fighting fifty. But the score turned out to be too less in the end as Australia chased it down by losing just three wickets with more than 15 overs remaining. David Warner, who was playing his first international game after the ball-tampering scandal, top-scored for the Aussies with an unbeaten 89.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, suffered a crushing ten-wicket loss at the hands of New Zealand. It was a ruthless performance from the Black Caps as they blew away the Islanders to prove their serious title-credentials. The one-sided contest in its entirety lasted just 45 overs. Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne scored a fighting half-century – and became the second batsman after Ridley Jacobs to carry his bat in a World Cup game – but he found little support from the other end as Sri Lanka were out for just 136. In reply, New Zealand’s openers Martin Guptill and Colin Munro aced the chase, as both scored half-centuries to cross the line in the 17th over.

How’s the weather expected to be:

The crucial match can be very much marred by rain as AccuWeather has predicted that the chances of rainfall are around 49 percent at the start of the game. Before the start of the game, the chances of rain are even more which can make the outfield unsuitable for the game. There will be a threat of rain throughout the match in the Wales capital. As far as the temperature is concerned, it will be in the range of 14-17 degree Celsius throughout.
