In order to post or chase a mega total in the ODI cricket, maintaining a good run-rate in the middle overs is a must. India undoubtedly have aggressive top three but the scoring rate has been unimpressive in the middle. Be it Ambati Rayudu or MS Dhoni or any other player, they haven’t been able to make the most of midpoint of the innings.

Rayudu, in particular, has been highly criticised for slow scoring-rate. Pertinently, it was quite visible from the 2nd New Zealand ODI as well. India was in a position to post over 350-run total though due to the slowdown of run-rate in the middle-overs, they finished at 324 runs. In testing English conditions, new ball is always hard to handle so making quick runs in middle is even more important.
