Windies kept their hopes alive in getting the ticket for the 2019 World Cup after a close win against the hosts Zimbabwe in the Super Sixes game. Brendan Taylor’s superlative 138-run knock helped Zimbabwe to post 289/10 in their 50 overs. Taylor hit 20 fours and two sixes in the 124 balls he faced in the innings. Evin Lewis’ 64 and a 135-run partnership between Marlon Samuels (86) and Shai Hope (76) put Windies on top. They lost four wickets for 20 runs before reaching the target in 49 overs.

All the stats and numbers that were recorded during Windies’ 4-wicket victory:

5 – Only the 5th time three of Windies’ top three scored 60 and more in an ODI. The last such instance was in February 2013 also against Zimbabwe. This ODI was also the first time since 2013 when three of Windies’ top four scored fifties.


5 – Number of 4-wicket hauls as a captain for Jason Holder in ODI cricket. Wasim Akram (11), Shaun Pollock (6) and Waqar Younis (5) are the only other captains to take five and more 4-wicket hauls in this format.


6 – Shai Hope and Marlon Samuels shared 135 runs for the 3rd wicket at an RR of 6. The pair had three fifty-run stands in ODIs before this with all the three coming at an RR below 3.5.


7.16 – The economy rate of Windies’ spinners in this game. They conceded 115 runs in the 16 overs they bowled in the Zimbabwe innings. This is only the 2nd time where the spinners conceded at an RR of seven and more in an ODI inning in Zimbabwe. The highest is 7.86 by the Zimbabwe spinners against Windies in the 2003 Bulawayo ODI.


8 – Number of Brendan Taylor’s centuries in the ODI format that came in losing cause. Only Sachin Tendulkar (14) and Chris Gayle (9) have scored more ODI centuries in the losing cause than Taylor.


10 – Brendan Taylor became the first Zimbabwe player to score ten centuries in the ODI format. Alistair Campbell’s seven centuries are the 2nd most for Zimbabwe in ODI cricket.


20 – Number of fours Brendan Taylor hit during his 138-run innings. These are the most boundary fours a Zimbabwe player hit in an ODI inning. Craig Wishart scored hit 18 fours during his unbeaten 172 against Namibia in 2003.


92 – Runs Brendan Taylor scored in boundaries in this game. These are the joint 2nd most boundaries runs for a Zimbabwe player in an ODI inning. Charles Coventry scored 106 runs boundaries during his 194* against Bangladesh in 2009. Hamilton Masakadza also scored 92 runs in boundaries during his 178* against Kenya in 2009.


138 – Taylor became only the 2nd Zimbabwe player to score an ODI century against Windies. Murry Goodwin scored an unbeaten 112 during the 2000 NatWest Series game in England.


289 – Zimbabwe’s total of 289 is the joint 2nd highest ODI total against Windies. They made 290/4 in a successful run-chase in the 2000 Chester-le-Street ODI and also 289 in the 2015 CWC game in Canberra.
